Workforce Programs at Connections

The Workforce Division staff is housed at the local One Stop – Connections. The Workforce Division currently offers three programs to assist community members with employment and employment preparation.

 

Workforce Investment ProgramsWorkforce Investment Act Programs

Two of the three programs provided at Connections are funded through the Belmont County Department of Job & Family Services and the Workforce Investment Act. These programs are targeted to local youth from 14 years of age to 21 years of age.

Teen Leadership

Designed to provide eligible students with job skills, career information, and leadership development opportunities that will assist them in completing high school and entering college, the workforce, or the military.

 

Some of the program components are as follows:

  • Group and individual activities that occur during and after school hours throughout the school year
  • Informational tours of local businesses, colleges and cultural events
  • Paid and unpaid work experience
  • Community service activities
  • Leadership development
  • Adult mentoring

Older Youth

Designed to help youth, ages 18 to 21, develop job related skills and enter the workforce in a field that matches their interests and career goals.

Some of the program components are as follows:

  • Job readiness and leadership sessions – either individual or group
  • 120 hours of paid or unpaid work experience
  • Adult Mentoring
  • Follow up services

Senior Community Service Employment Program

The third program in the Workforce Division targets the Senior Citizens in our local communities and assists them in entering the workforce through paid training at local non-profit and governmental agencies. SCSEP is operated under a United Stated Department of Labor grant and in cooperation with Senior Service America Inc. The SCSEP Program is an equal opportunity program.

To participate in SCSEP, a person must be:

  • Age 55 or older
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Live in a household with income no more than 125 percent of the federal poverty level.
