The Housing Office is a HUD & NCHEC certified housing counseling and education agency and has been in existence since 1996, providing foreclosure prevention counseling, reverse mortgage counseling, housing education and counseling, debt/money management & credit counseling and education, state and federal income tax preparation for qualified households, homelessness avoidance counseling, and rental counseling. The office also provides fair housing education and counseling for all counseling needs and makes referrals to the appropriate agencies for clients needing additional assistance.

Counseling Available to Clients
  • Foreclosure Counseling - conducted on a one-on-one format with steps to avoid foreclosure, options available to the client, and if the client is qualified; referrals to agencies providing rescue funding.
  • HECM or Reverse Mortgage Counseling - conducted on a one-on-one format with senior citizens interested in the HECM or Reverse Mortgage program.
  • Housing Education and Counseling - conducted either one-on-one for counseling, or in a group setting in seminars for pre-purchase housing education, the client is given in depth counseling and education in the process of purchasing a home, or for existing homeowners who aren't delinquent on their mortgage, counseling for the specific need is provided on a one-on-one basis.
  • Debt/Money Management & Credit Counseling - one-on-one or group education in budgeting and debt/money management and credit counseling, with the emphasis on increasing family wealth through budgeting and planning for the future and eliminating unnecessary debt. The housing office will again offer client Benefit Bank free 2008 tax preparation for households earning less than $56,000.
  • Homelessness Avoidance - counseling in a one-on-one setting for clients in danger of becoming homeless.
  • Rental Counseling - one-on-one counseling and referrals for clients seeking rental housing, or those in need of information regarding rights as a tenant.
