Emergency Food and Shelter
Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) is a federally-funded program, created to supplement and expand the work of local social service agencies. The Community Action Commission historically receives those funds in January or February, but this can vary. Assistance is limited to one month’s usage of past due gas or electric bills. A one-time delivery of bulk fuel may be approved, if a household has less than a ten-day supply. Families with past due rent or mortgage payments and lot fees for mobile homes are also eligible to apply for assistance.
EFSP funds may never be used for deposits or late fees, and are limited to one month’s service. Information needed at the time of application is the same as emergency HEAP.
