COAD Belmont Senior Companion Program - A FREE SERVICE

If you are age 55 or older or an adult with disabilities, you qualify for free companionship in your home. Our program is designed to help senior citizens and disabled adults remain independent and in their own homes. We can place a volunteer in your home for 20 hours per week to be a friend, fix a light meal, do some light housework, play games, help you with your mail or reading activities, watch television, take a walk or sit on the porch. This is to help you keep socially active which also includes taking you to outside activities. This is a completely FREE service and no personal financial information is required. This service also includes senior citizens who are in assisted living centers.

We are also looking for senior citizens 60 and older who would like to become a volunteer for this service. You will receive a tax free stipend bi-weekly along with being reimbursed for your mileage round trip to your client and program activities. We have monthly training meetings that you get paid to attend. We have an annual recognition luncheon each year at local restaurants and resorts. This stipend payment does not affect any social service benefits you are receiving such as housing, etc.. It does not count as income. You will need to provide annual income information to become a volunteer and you will receive an annual physical free of charge.

If you are in need of help, would like to become a volunteer or a client, please call for all of the details at the Community Action Commission of Belmont County, Inc.
